  5. Smart Menu is a small menu that is easy to use, and loaded with features.

  11. BBS.LST      : A list of BBS's that the latest version of SM can be found on
  12. DESC.SDI     : Description of Smart Menu for Wildcat! and other BBS's
  13. FILE_ID.DIZ  : Description of Smart Menu for PCBoard and other BBS's
  14. ORDER.FRM    : An order form for registering Smart Menu 2.0a.
  15. README       : This file with extra information about Smart Menu 2.0a.
  16. SM.BAT       : The Batch File Used to Run Smart Menu
  17. SM_PROG.EXE  : Smart Menu 2.0a Main Executable File

  31. 11/14/92 - Released as Version 1.1
  32.     Note:  This is mostly a bug release.  Sorry about this, as I
  33.     had made some enhancements the day before I released
  34.     Version 1.00, and I did not bug-test them thoroughly.
  35.     And this is the result!
  36.     Bugs Fixed:
  37.     - Colors were not being reset to the same as they where before
  38.       SM was run.  Fixed.
  39.     - Occassionally, some programs would not run, after returning
  40.       from a menu that uses swapping to a menu that uses batch.
  41.     - When ALT-X or F10 was pressed from a sub-menu, Smart Menu was
  42.       not exiting properly.  Fixed.
  43.     - When saving a CFG file under a new name, SM did not add the
  44.       .CFG extension to the name.  Fixed.
  45.     Enhancements/Additions:
  46.     - Added an option to the command to start SM with a different
  47.       configuration file than the default file, "SM.CFG".
  48.       This is done by naming the file on the command line.
  49.       For example, "SM GAMES.CFG" would start SM with the file
  50.       "GAMES.CFG".
  51.     - Now displays the name of the configuration file for the
  52.       current menu on the main configuration screen.

  54. 12/10/92 - Released as Version 1.2
  55.     Bugs Fixed:
  56.     - Title Line of new sub-menus wasn't being added when you edit
  57.       them for the first time.
  58.     - Text Input Lines were not being updated properly in the Entry
  59.       Information Screens.
  60.     Enhancements/Additions:
  61.     - Added an option to not display the clock on the main screen.
  62.       A few people did not like that clock there, so I added this
  63.       option
  64.     - Enhanced the CFG Files.  This is why SMUpdate is included.
  65.       In the new type of file, they can be used as either Main Menu
  66.       files or Sub-Menu Files with no problems.
  67.       Also made the CFG files so that SM could tell what version they
  68.       were made with and still be able to use them, even if they were
  69.       from an older version.  (That's the main reason for SMUpdate)
  70.     - Added an option for SM to keep a LOG file of what users do in
  71.       Smart Menu.  This is a file in SM's home directory, called
  72.       SM.LOG (See SM.DOC for more info)
  73.     - Included new program, called SMUpdate.Exe.  This will update
  74.       CFG files from Versions 1.0 and 1.1 to 1.2.
  75.       Usage is "SMUPDATE <file name>", where <file name> is the CFG
  76.       file you want to update.  Wildcards may be used.
  77.       Sorry for this incovenience, but it will not happen in future
  78.       versions, due to the Enhanced CFG Files.

  81.     Bugs Fixed:
  82.     - After creating a new menu, SM would exit to DOS rather than go
  83.       to the new menu.
  84.     - The clock, during midnight, would show 0:01a.m.
  85.     - The screen was not being redrawn after returning from a DOS
  86.       Shell.
  87.     - The Passwords Backspace Option was not working properly.
  88.     - The Passwords Visibility Option did not work.
  89.     - Fixed problem with the clock sometimes not appearing.
  90.     - Fixed a problem with some files not running properly in
  91.       Batch Mode.
  92.     - Fixed a problem with non-existent CFG Files.
  93.     - Fixed a problem with pushing ESCape from the Color Selection
  94.       Screen.
  95.     Enhancements/Additions:
  96.     - Added hot-keys to the Configuration menus.
  97.     - Added a Change to root option to return to the root directory
  98.       after running a program.
  99.     - Added full, on-line help, available anywhere in the program, by
  100.       pressing the F1 key.  This is what the SM.HLP file is for.
  101.       The help option was removed from the Utility Menu.
  102.     - Added a Help Index, available through the Shift-F1 key.
  103.     - A new encryption scheme is used in this version, but the
  104.       conversion is automatic and only happens the first time you
  105.       run the new version.
  106.     - Added more clock display options.  You can now choose to show
  107.       the clock with or without seconds.
  108.     - Added more keys in the Color Selection Screen: PgUp takes you
  109.       to the top, PgDn to the bottom, and the mouse cursor now moves
  110.       diagonally.
  111.     - Added the ability to call the screen saver on demand by pressing
  112.       either the F8 or the Alt-A Key.
  113.     - Added a Screen Saver Password to lock up your system while you
  114.       are away from it.
  115.     - Changed the Configuration so that when you push ESCape it asks
  116.       you if you want to save the CFG File.
  117.     - Changed so that if you specify a CFG file on the command line,
  118.       you do not need to type the '.CFG'.
  119.     - Changed so that selecting All for a Swap Destination swaps to
  120.       XMS, EMS, and DISK, in that order, rather than EMS, XMS, DISK.
  121.     Cosmetic Changes:
  122.     - Changed the 'Credit Screen' to 'About SM'.
  123.     - Changed 'Save' to 'Save File'.
  124.     - Changed 'Save As' to 'Save File As'.
  125.     - Added shadows in the menus and various places to improve the
  126.       appearance.

  129.     Bugs Fixed:
  130.     - Fixed problem with upgrades from previous versions.  Users would 
  131.       receive 'File is not locked' error messages

  136. - A whole new interface, using more modern interface styles.
  137. - A  different  way  of  using  the mouse, with a mouse pointer.
  138. - Preset video  modes.  You can select what text mode that you want
  139.   SM to run in.
  140. - When building a new menu, SM will automatically detect what programs
  141.   are on your hard disk, and put them in appropriate sub-menus.
